Democracy, Public Finance and Property Rights in Stability

Workshop – Democracy, Economic Security, and Social Justice in a Volatile World(webpage)

University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, US, 7-9 April 2011

This workshop marked the second meeting of the 16-member Task Force on Democracy, Economic Security, and Social Justice in a Volatile World, a working group convened by the American Political Science Association(APSA) in response to the global financial crisis of 2008.

The task force, which was active in 2010 and 2011, was tasked with the project of “assess[ing] recent policy innovations” in the three areas of “basic income, participatory budgeting and planning, and rights-based models of welfare and development,” with the goal to “refresh and reinvigorate debates on the articulation between democracy, economic security, and social justice” globally (see also “Publications” and “Engagement” for more information about the APSA task force).

The workshop was co-sponsored by the APSA and the European Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh.
